Song of the Day-The House Is Rockin'(With Domestic Problems)

One of my favorite genres of music is so-called "Power Pop" which has it's roots in the harder rocking tunes of the early and mid-period Beatles. The many, the bands that make up the Holy Trinity of Power Pop are Raspberries, Bad Finger and Big Star. One of the top 10 Power Pop bands of all time came out of the Rockford, Illinois area in the mid-70s.

Cheap Trick were at their absolute commercial peak in 1979 coming off the "Live At Budokan" offering. Their follow up "Dream Police" was recorded, then sat in the can until "Budokan" finished it's chart run. Upon release it went platinum, hitting number 6 on the Billboard charts. They recorded a lot of great tunes further on up the road but the downhill slide, commercially, began after this. Side one, track three in the old lp parlance rocked, hard.

By the way, as they say at the end of educational tv programs, "for further reading, please Google "Audities" or "Pop Geek Heaven" to get the lowdown on this still-vital genre.
